Mark Ingram - 2009 Heisman Winner
The 2009 Heisman Trophy Race was extremely close, but
Alabama's RB edged out the competition.
Mark Ingram Races to Heisman Glory
Award is the first in Bama history
In the closest Heisman voting in the award's first 75 years,
Alabama's Mark Ingram edged out Stanford's Toby Gerhart
(RB) and Texas' Colt McCoy (QB) in the voting.

Among first place votes, Ingram received 227 while Gerhart
earned 222 and McCoy garnered 203.  In the final Heisman
point totals posted 1,304 points from the nationwide
Heisman voting, while Gerhart gained 1, 276 and McCoy
picked up 1,145 points.

Ingram capped off his Heisman resume, a week before the
award was presented when he ran for 113 yards and 3 TD's
in Alabama's win over undefeated Florida in the SEC
Championship Game.  Ingram had a season full of
success as he set a school individual season record with
1,542 yards.  Ingram also scored 18 TD's for an Alabama
team that often looked for the bruising back in the 2nd half
of key conference matches.

Besides finishing above Gerhart and McCoy, Ingram also
surged ahead of Heisman finalist Tim Tebow (FLA-QB) and
Nebraska (DT) Ndamukong Suh.
2009 Heisman Winner
In Mark Ingram's acceptance speech, he said he was honored
to become part of the Heisman fraternity and proud to bring
Alabama their first Heisman trophy.

No Heisman Jinx For Mark Ingram
Mark Ingram avoided the dreaded Heisman jinx with a tremendous
performance against Texas in the 2009 BCS National Championship Game.
Ingram toted the ball 22 times for 116 yards and 2 TD's that helped Alabama
beat the Longhorns 37-21.  Ingram also added 12 yards on 2 receptions.
